LigIT (利太智药)

Beijing peptide-design startup from the Tsinghua AIR DrugCLIP lineage, generating linear, cyclic and mirror-image peptides.

1. Core Product / Service

LigIT (利太智药(北京)科技有限公司) is an AI-native peptide drug developer founded in 2026. When it announced its seed round in October 2026, it was "less than three months old" [1]. It designs peptides de novo with generative models, on three platforms [1]:

  • PepUmi — a synthetic peptide dataset of nearly 10 billion entries. It is built from protein structures, filtered by physical constraints and calibrated against wet-lab results.
  • PepUni — a peptide-generation model with an equivariant-Transformer architecture. The company says it designs cyclic peptides with nanomolar affinity and follows scaling-law behavior.
  • PepMirror — a generative model for D-amino-acid (mirror-image) peptides, which resist proteases. The company claims tens-fold higher stability than L-peptides and zero-shot design.

These claims come from the company and have not been independently benchmarked.

Pipeline. Several in-house programs are at hit-to-lead, with drug-like candidates expected in early 2027 [1]. Partnered projects have already reached preclinical studies [1][2]. Therapeutic areas are oncology (including peptide–drug and antibody–drug conjugates), autoimmunity and metabolic disease [1].

Wet-lab model: claimed closed loop, ownership unclear. One trade-media profile describes a "72-hour peptide generation–synthesis–testing–structure closed-loop platform" validated on several oncology and metabolic targets [1]. The funding announcement does not mention it, and neither source says whether synthesis and assays are done in-house or through partners or CROs [1][2]. The funding is earmarked for compute rental, R&D, patents and hiring, not lab build-out [2]. Peptide synthesis is widely available from Chinese CROs, so a fast loop does not by itself imply an in-house lab.

2. Target Users & Pain Points

  • Pharma and biotech partners. In the near term the company makes money from model licensing, API access and co-development with listed pharma companies, biotechs, top-tier hospitals and national key labs [1][2].
  • Its own pipeline. It aims for out-licensing or BD deals rather than running large clinical programs itself [1].
  • The pain point: peptides fall between small molecules and antibodies. Designing peptides that are stable, cell-permeable or orally available is still largely trial and error, and mirror-image peptides add a stability advantage that is hard to design by hand.

3. Competitive Landscape

Player Positioning Vs. LigIT
aipher Tsinghua AIR spin-out built on DrugCLIP Same academic lineage; small molecules plus peptides, with a CNS lead
pinnacle-medicines AI + physics oral-peptide developer, OrbiMed-backed Pure pipeline, about 3× the capital, and closer to the clinic
generate-biomedicines US generative protein design Larger, protein-focused; LigIT targets the smaller peptide space
xtalpi AI + robotics platform with peptide services A potential competitor for partnered peptide-discovery work
anew-labs ByteDance spin-out that also designs cyclic peptides Much larger and multi-modality

4. Unique Observations

  • It shares a lineage with aipher. Both founders were co-first authors on the DrugCLIP Science paper from Tsinghua AIR, and the two companies were incorporated within months of each other. Whether they are related by equity or licensing, or simply compete, is not public.
  • It is a hybrid by design. Like most post-2023 Chinese AI-native startups, it plans to fund itself with platform deals while building its own assets. With under ¥50M in seed money, the partnership revenue matters.
  • Claims outrun evidence for now. The 10-billion-entry dataset, nanomolar cyclic peptides and 72-hour loop are all self-reported, and no peer-reviewed peptide-design results from the company have been published yet.

5. Financials / Funding

  • Seed round (Oct 2026): nearly ¥50M (RMB) [1][2].
    • Investors: iFlytek Ventures (讯飞创投), the L2F Lighthouse founders' fund (L2F 光源创业者基金) and an unnamed industry investor.
    • Exclusive financial advisor: Lighthouse Capital (光源资本).
  • Use of funds: compute rental, core pipeline R&D, patent filings, hiring and operations [2].
  • Revenue: not disclosed.

6. People & Relationships

  • Founder, CEO & CTO: 贾寅君 (Jia Yinjun, Dr.) [1][2]:

    • trained in the eight-year clinical medicine program at Peking Union Medical College;
    • postdoctoral researcher at Tsinghua AIR;
    • co-first author of the DrugCLIP Science paper.

    One investor statement refers to the founder as "Dr. Jia Bo" (贾博博士), apparently the same person [2].

  • Team: about 85% of core R&D staff hold degrees from Tsinghua or Peking University, spanning AI, peptide chemistry and drug R&D [1].

  • Investors: iFlytek Ventures, L2F Lighthouse fund.

  • Peers: aipher, pinnacle-medicines, anew-labs.
