Manas AI
New York AI-native oncology drug company co-founded by Siddhartha Mukherjee and Reid Hoffman; $50.6M seed, programs still unnamed.
1. Core Product / Service
Manas AI calls itself a "full-stack, AI-native drug discovery and development company" [2]. Its core asset is a set of foundation models for drug discovery. The company says it will design molecules with AI and validate them in a wet lab [1]. Its initial focus is breast cancer, prostate cancer and lymphoma, with some reports specifying triple-negative breast cancer [1]. It runs on Microsoft Azure, which reflects Reid Hoffman's ties to Microsoft [1].
The September 2025 release refers to "existing therapeutic campaigns" but names no target, molecule or development stage [2]. As of 2026-10 there is no public IND, partnership or named lead program.
Wet lab. The only public statement is "design with AI, test in a wet lab" [1]. Lab location, size and staffing are undisclosed, and no lab job postings were found. The CSO, appointed in April 2025, is a medicinal chemist [4]. That suggests chemistry-led programs, but it remains unknown whether synthesis and assays are done in-house or bought from CROs. PitchBook estimates headcount at about eight [5].
2. Target Users & Pain Points
- Patients: cancers with high unmet need, starting with the three indications above.
- Pain addressed: slow and expensive oncology discovery; the pitch is that AI cuts the time and cost of finding targets, designing molecules and predicting response [1][2].
3. Competitive Landscape
| Player | Approach | Vs. Manas |
|---|---|---|
| isomorphic-labs | AlphaFold-lineage design, internal oncology pipeline | Vastly larger capital |
| iambic-therapeutics | AI small molecules, HER2 lead in clinic | Clinical-stage, own automated lab |
| insilico-medicine | End-to-end generative chemistry | Many clinical assets |
| pathos-ai | AI for oncology development, in-licensed assets | AI applied to development rather than discovery |
4. Unique Observations
- Celebrity founders, modest capital. TechCrunch noted that the $24.6M seed was small next to xaira-therapeutics's $1B launch [1]. Even after the extension, Manas has raised about $50M, roughly 5% of Xaira's capital.
- Software-leadership build. The co-founder and CTO came from Google, Meta and Multiverse, not from biotech [2]. That fits a model-first company that may rely on external wet-lab capacity, but this is an inference, not a disclosed plan.
- Data hygiene. Some aggregator entries list a 2018 London founding, and one lists a "$33M 2026 round" that appears to be a currency-conversion error; both conflict with primary releases and should be ignored.
5. Financials / Funding
| Round | Date | Amount | Investors |
|---|---|---|---|
| Seed | 2025-01 | $24.6M | General Catalyst, Reid Hoffman (leads); Greylock [1][2] |
| Seed extension | 2025-09-23 | $26M | The General Partnership, Wisdom Ventures, Blitzscaling Ventures, Westbound Equity, Mosaic Ventures [2][3] |
- Total: $50.6M [2].
