ReviR Therapeutics (溪砾科技)

Shenzhen / Silicon Valley AI biotech targeting RNA and translation with small molecules. Lead RTX-117 is in Phase I for Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease.

1. Core Product / Service

ReviR's Chinese entity, 溪砾科技(深圳)有限公司, was registered on 21 May 2021 in Shenzhen's Nanshan district. It is wholly owned by a Hong Kong holding company [3]. English releases give the headquarters as Brisbane, California [1], and the team is split between Silicon Valley and Shenzhen [2].

The VoyageR AI platform models RNA structure and finds small molecules that regulate RNA splicing and translation. Its first focus area was splicing modulation (SpliceR) [1][2].

Lead asset: RTX-117. A highly selective small-molecule activator of eIF2B that dampens the overactive integrated stress response (ISR) to restore normal protein translation [4].

  • Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT): cleared for trials in both China and the US, with FDA orphan drug designation [4].
  • Vanishing White Matter disease (VWM): NMPA cleared an additional trial in early 2026 [4].
  • FDA rare pediatric disease designation: granted in August 2026. RTX-117 is in Phase I, which the company expects to finish by year-end [5].

Wet-lab model. The 2024 release says ReviR itself contributes RNA structural analysis, small-molecule screening and target-engagement evaluation [1]. RTX-117 was co-developed with xtalpi using XtalPi's AI-plus-robotics platform [4], so chemistry and automated experimentation rely at least partly on a partner. Lab size in Shenzhen or California is not disclosed, and no job postings were found.

2. Target Users & Pain Points

  • Patients with rare neurological diseases. CMT and VWM have no approved disease-modifying therapies. Rare-disease designations give regulatory and commercial incentives.
  • Patient foundations. The Charcot-Marie-Tooth Research Foundation invested in the Series A [1], and CureCMT made a strategic investment in April 2026 [3]. Disease foundations are acting as co-funders.

3. Competitive Landscape

Player Positioning Vs. ReviR
xunjing-bio 2023 Beijing RNA-targeting small-molecule startup Same modality thesis; earlier and smaller
xtalpi AI + robotics discovery platform Partner and investor; shares RTX-117 economics
mindrank Same-cohort AI small-molecule company Late-stage metabolic asset vs ReviR's rare-disease CNS focus
aureka-bio China/US AI antibody startup Similar cross-border structure question

4. Unique Observations

  • It sits below this cohort's funding bar but is clinical. About US$54M disclosed through 2024 [1] is well under the capital of helixon-therapeutics or syneron-bio. Yet it has a first-in-class asset with China and US clearances.
  • The economics are shared with its platform partner. XtalPi receives milestone payments ("tens of millions of HKD" after clinical approvals), global sales royalties and a share of out-licensing income on RTX-117 [4]. The "AI-native own pipeline" is partly a co-owned asset.
  • Is it a Chinese company? It has a Shenzhen operating entity, a California headquarters in English releases and mostly Chinese venture investors. As with aureka-bio, classification depends on definition.
  • The mechanism has moved from the original thesis. RTX-117 acts on eIF2B and the ISR, not directly on an RNA structure. The platform's "RNA-targeting" label is broader than its lead molecule.

5. Financials / Funding

Round Date Amount Investors
Angel May 2021 not disclosed 5Y Capital, CDH VGC [2]
Pre-A Jan 2022 "tens of millions of USD" (one database: US$20M) Led by Sky9, Shunwei, Tiantu; existing investors over-subscribed [2][3]
Series A Jul 2024 US$30M Led by Lapam Capital; CDH, 5Y, Yael followed; XtalPi and CMTRF joined [1]
